Episode 5.5: Estelle (Part 2)
B058 – I’ll tell you what I can, but really, you’ll just have to Witness it. They’re amazing together.
They met while Jenny was working night shift—Estelle was staying at the Flamingo. She asked for recommendations on what to do around the city. Jenny started cracking jokes, and Estelle appreciated that immediately.
A018 (thoughtfully) – You know, that makes sense. Lucas had a wicked sense of humor. Warm, personable. Sounds like what you’ve said about Jenny.
B058 (nodding) – Exactly. And Jenny? You know how she is. Loves people. Picks up on things no one says out loud.
She caught something in the way Estelle said she was here by herself—asked if she wanted to grab drinks the next night.
A018 (surprised) – Jenny’s so sweet. That was a total stranger.
B058 – That’s classic Jenny. She has a sixth sense for lonely people. Always has.
So, Estelle agrees—but you could tell it was wildly out of character for her.
A018 (laughing) – I know! I can’t believe she went through with it.
B058 – Barely. It was awkward at first. Jenny was doing her best, but Estelle was clearly regretting her own spontaneity.
Just when it was getting almost unbearable to Witness, Jenny asked if she wanted to check out the casino.
A018 (grinning) – Oh stars. And she said yes?
B058 – She did. And they ended up at the blackjack table. (Looks at A018 meaningfully.)
A018 (slapping their forehead) – Of course! I can’t believe I forgot. That must be why she went to Vegas. Lucas taught her blackjack!
B058 (smiling) – I know.
A018 (confused) – I told you about that?
B058 (smirking) – Estelle told Jenny about that.
A018 (surprised) – While they played?
B058 (wincing) – Not exactly.
A018 (freezing) – Oh... no.
B058 – She... had a meltdown.
A018 (under their breath) – Void take me.
B058 – All the tears she hadn’t cried? They hit her like a wave. Right there at the table.
Couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t speak.
A018 (shaking their head) – Poor girl. How did Jenny handle it?
B058 (with pride) – Like the damn star she is. Got them out of the game, out of the casino, and up to Estelle’s room with no fuss.
A018 (sighing with relief) – Thank the Stars.
B058 – And that’s when they finally talked.
A018 (leaning in slightly) – Really?
B058 (softly) – Really. Estelle told her everything. About Lucas. The ALS. About being someone who was always in control—and how suddenly, she wasn’t.
She even told her about how she and Lucas used to gamble with gummy bears when she was little.
A018 (smiling) – That’s the Estelle I remember.
B058 – And Jenny opened up, too.
Told her about leaving Phoenix. About chasing new places and people because sometimes, it’s easier than sitting still with herself.
She said she’s surrounded by people all the time—but somehow doesn’t have a single actual friend.
(A018 is quiet. They know these stories. Not just the Being—but the Witness who carries them.)
B058 – You said they didn’t seem compatible.
But watching them together... it’s something special.
A018 (pondering) – Maybe they aren’t opposites.
Maybe they’re two parts of a whole.
(They take a long sip from their Cleanse and set it down gently.)
A018 (smiling slowly) – And you really think it’s a Highly Significant Event?
B058 (nods) – I know it is.
A018 (exhales, letting the weight of joy settle on their shoulders) – I can't wait to see them together.
(The breakroom hum continues. Inside time, two lives shift. Outside it, two Witnesses prepare to begin again.)
